Step forth ye Volunteers!
“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all” – Wendell Berry
At Huntstile there is usually a project on, and we like to get things done together, working as a team.
Whether its building an animal shelter, renovating a barn, hay-making, adding raised beds to the veg garden, weeding said beds, rotovating, cutting back, putting new fencing in, pressing cider apples, harvesting potatoes, hedge trimming, chipping stuff, tiling the roof, moving/feeding the pigs/cows/chickens…you get the idea.
We are always on the lookout for trusty helpers – be you ‘wwoofers’ or not, any volunteers who want to learn – even those who know it all (Martin, veg expert on the left) – your assistance is always appreciated here and we need you!
If you want to learn more about growing food, how it’s done, why we do it, what you need to start off, or if you just want to leave the office behind for a week or two and do some completely different:
Come and volunteer of the farm!
There are all sorts who make up the volunteers we’ve had here over the years, from our (now) old friend Aussie George, to Paula the Systems Analyst, Maggie (financial advisor) & Rob (plumber) to Guy (physics major), Peter (hot air balloon pilot) and Mary & John (organic farmers from the US) – and of course Jodi and Helen (below) & Paul – and that’s not including all our visitors from continental Europe including Cedric, James, Samuel and most recently Marvin.
You don’t need qualifications, just a will to learn new skills and the stamina work hard (- and, believe me, it is hard work!). We will compensate you with bed & full board and a lifetime’s experience and knowledge. It’s a small friendly team who work like the clappers.
